All Aboard! 
The Southern Pacific Railroad came to Indio 130 years ago.  Artifacts and historical photos tell the story of its importance to the valley
Submarine is moved to its new home at Coacella Valley Museum

Desert Submarine Scale model of the water-cooled sleeping quarters invented by railroad workers to beat the desert heat delights visitors of all ages.  Actual full-sized submarine can also be viewed on the museum grounds
Historic 1909 Schoolhouse
This historic building remains as the only one room schoolhouse in the Coachella Valley that is still intact as it was originally built. The 1909 schoolhouse is also the very last example of Southern Pacific Railroad style architecture in the Coachella Valley and one of the oldest surviving buildings in the local desert community.  For more information...

The Second Annual Mexican-American Pioneer Oral History Project 

We invite you to participate in our Second Annual Mexican-American Pioneer Oral History Project.  Registration is open to any family of Mexican decent that came to the coachella Valley during or before World War II

We will open the new exhibit designed by local families on Saturday, April 12, 2008. Please check back for further information or email project director Sarah McCormick at cvmuscc1@aol.com.

THE PICTORIAL HISTORY OF COACHELLA VALLEY
We are delighted to be able to offer THE PICTORIAL HISTORY OF COACHELLA VALLEY by author Patricia B. Laflin. This beautiful coffee-table book covers the history of the Coachella Valley. It is already in it's second print. For more information about this great book, click here!


The Coachella Valley Museum opened in 1984 and is located in a Mission style, adobe structure, the former home of Indio's first doctor, built in 1925
In 1983, purchased by City of Indio, leased to COACHELLA VALLEY HISTORICAL SOCIETY, INC. for use as a Museum and Cultural Center.
Extensive landscaped grounds, often rented for Weddings and other ceremonial occasions.
Three special gardens: Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, and Desert Garden.
Gift Shop at Entrance. Displays consist of local Indian Artifacts,``````````` 14-+
Story of formation of Salton Sea. History of development of water resources in the Desert.
History of Agriculture in the Desert, specifically the Date industry which is vital to Coachella Valley.

Large collection of horse-drawn farm machinery, Old-fashioned Blacksmith Shop,
an authentic Submarine and an 1909 Schoolhouse in process of restoration.
